Chafer Fabric
Chafer Fabrics are high-performance reinforcement textiles used in the bead and lower sidewall region of pneumatic tyres to protect against abrasion, fatigue, and mechanical damage caused by continuous contact between the tyre bead, rim flange, and bead wires. Acting as a protective interface, chafer fabrics minimise chafing, prevent carcass degradation, improve rim seating stability, and enhance the overall durability and service life of passenger, truck, bus, agricultural, off-highway, and industrial tyres.
At GD Textiles Pvt. Ltd. (GDPT), we manufacture premium RFL-dipped Nylon 6 and Nylon 66 Chafer Fabrics engineered to withstand the cyclic stresses experienced in the bead region. Our manufacturing capabilities include wicking and non-wicking constructions, as well as monofilament, multifilament, and hybrid fabric designs, enabling tyre manufacturers to optimise air retention, rubber penetration, flexibility, and reinforcement characteristics for specific tyre applications.
We process 420, 840, and 1260 denier yarns, producing fabrics ranging from 85 GSM to 400 GSM with widths between 100 cm and 230 cm. Advanced weaving technology ensures precise pick density, controlled fabric geometry, excellent dimensional stability, and uniform tensile properties, delivering exceptional process consistency during calendaring and tyre building.
GDPT's proprietary multi-stage Resorcinol-Formaldehyde-Latex (RFL) dipping and thermal curing technology is specifically engineered to maximise fibre-to-rubber adhesion. The optimised dip formulation promotes superior rubber penetration while providing excellent green tack during tyre building and deep chemical bonding during vulcanisation. This results in enhanced interfacial adhesion, improved fatigue resistance, superior resistance to ply separation, and long-term structural integrity under dynamic operating conditions.
Our chafer fabrics are available with fringe selvage, heat-sealed selvage, or precision cut edges to suit individual production requirements.
